I’ve been working with Linda Thomas and Bill Bouthot of Secwépemc Child & Family Services, along with Andrea Zazzi, owner of Lavanda – Strategy & Precision on creating positive, fresh and progressive imagery for Secwépemc CFS’s new website look and messaging for a number of months now. Working with Bill and the agency, along with Andrea has been a fantastic experience that started in the fall of last year, conceptualizing imagery direction and strategy. Obviously one of the challenges that an agency like this can be faced with is the sometimes negative stigma that can come with it. So, with all the new initiatives in place that have already been implemented, the biggest challenge for me as a photographer was to create content that had a very upbeat and uplifting message. That wasn’t so much challenging (due to the great people we have worked with on shoots), as it was pure fun! That alone told me that what was being created was going to parallel the new look and feel. The new site isn’t quite ready yet but all the resources are in place to go live soon.
As a professional, I absolutely love diversity in my content, so to say I’ve enjoyed this project so far would be a huge understatement. Photographing kids with parents and elders, single emotive portraits, artisans, crafting, as well as supplying stock imagery of relevant landscapes and wildlife tapped into the experiences I’ve had over the years. It’s rewarding to see an array of content fit into a project like a neat puzzle. I’ve learned a lot about culture, history and traditional family values along the way as well, which has been fantastic; some new friends too 🙂
